Sound Box combines two programmes that distinguish British Cultural Life - gardens and pubs. At ground level an urban garden provides a flexible external space to drink and meet within the city. Raised above is a bar that provides a specialised venue to listen to live music.
Inspired by weather balloons and the interior of inflated structures, a strange, hovering icon for the city. A cloud-like object - a mirrored box wrapped in a semi-transparent, semi-inflated coat that flits and billows in the breeze. An unfamiliar object unrecognisable in traditional architectural language - soft, draped, translucent and dynamic. Not defined as a shape or a form – Soundbox is more a fleeting passing sensation.
