Our urban organisation proposed facilities and public experiences that are accessible to all throughout the day. To extend the experience of the city by creating usable spaces that link into the existing infrastructure. To organise a layering of programme that creates a rich density of experience in the new gallery square, creating a town square that is contemporary but also recognises the importance of Walsall’s cultural and social heritage. A space for mums, their children, teenagers and the retired. A series of spaces that at various times can be used by all age groups, creating a densely occupied area that is a destination for local people and visitors. Inclusive and accessible by making events and spaces organised within Gallery Square accessible without the need to enter a building or institution. Whether buying a newspaper, flowers, watching a film, viewing art or having a drink, as a citizen you can gain access, learn and be entertained.
Here high art and popular events are juxtaposed simultaneously, creating a rich interface for the local area and its
people. We seek to bring a wide section of the population to Walsall Waterfront. A gateway to Gallery Square and
Walsall Waterfront, a space that symbolises change.
