T+T 008
The project investigates the insertion of new space within existing Victorian rooms. The project is set within two three storey Victorian houses. The existing houses, reorganised in the 1960s as a collection of bedsit rooms, create intensification of space to accommodate the demand from migrant workers. T+Ts proposal seeks to create an excess of openness and interconnection. Long spaces, laterally organised that flow into external terrace rooms.
Apartment 008 is conceived as a collection of rooms each defined by bespoke Joinery. The joinery is used as a device to separate programmes and create multiple spaces within a room.
Apartment 009 is formed within the existing roof space. Large sliding doors allow spaces to be cellular or open plan, creating a fluid relationship between uses. Sliding screens reveal varying views of the external terraces and alter the intensity of south sun entering the interior. The screens allow the interior to be reconfigured depending on the users needs.
The roof garden is conceived as an external room. High level planting wraps a metal frame, creating a sense of enclosure and allowing garden views from the interior. The organisation seeks to maximise the connectivity between internal and external spaces.
